Is that ability a triggered or a static one?

Asked by mahdik 6 years ago

On Avatar of the Resolute, the "Avatar of the Resolute enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each other creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it" happens when it enters the battlefield, but I don't think it's a triggered one, but a static one. Am I right?

The reason why I ask is because if it's a triggered one, we can play around by choosing its order on the stack with other triggered ETB ability. Exemple: Experiment One's one could interact. Experiment One is on the battlefield, Avatar of the Resolute enters, both ability triggers, resolve ExpOne first (evolve it), then resolve Avatar (checking if the criteria are complete, +1/+1 counters). If so, entering Avatar of the Resolute after Experiment One would always be a good play, as long as your stack positioning is good.

So is Avatar of the Resolute's ability a triggered or a static one? Or even more, am I wrong thinking it would triggers if it wasn't the case?

Avatar of the Resolute's second block of text is a static ability. As a rule triggered abilities begin with "when" or "whenever" and static abilities that modify the way something enters use the phrases "as [CARD] enters the battlefield", "[CARD] enters the battlefield as", or "[CARD] enters the battlefield with".

Gidgetimer ok thanks, that's what I was expecting. Even thought the card is recent, old cards can have strange oracle version and change type/ability along the years, so I didn't took the chance :)

The Oracle text shown in Gatherer is always the most up-to-date version of a card's text, and can be trusted to be correct.
