indestructibility

okay, here's a specific situation:

You have a Soulfire Grand Master on the field. You cast Valorous Stance targeting it to give it indestructibility. You then proceed to cast Anger of the Gods.

Can someone please explain in full detail why or why not the Soulfire Grand Master would or would not die to Anger of the Gods? Because as far as I'm aware a replacement effect takes place, but I'm currently getting told that that is not true.

Anger of the Gods has a replacement effect that replaces going to the graveyard with going to exile if and only if a creature dealt damage by Anger of the Gods would die this turn.

Because Soulfire Grand Master has indestructible, it can't be destroyed, so Anger of the Gods's damage won't destroy it and the replacement effect never applies. Soulfire Grand Master doesn't go anywhere.

If, for some reason, Soulfire Grand Master dies later in the turn (due to, say, sacrifice or having 0 toughness), then the replacement effect will apply at that time because Anger of the Gods dealt damage to Soulfire Grand Master and its replacement effect is therefore applicable.
