Hushbringer + Serra Paragon

Asked by Andromedus 9 months ago

Hushbringer is in play.

I've got Serra Paragon in play. I cast a Giver of Runes from my graveyard.

My opponent Lightning Bolts the Giver of Runes, killing it.

Am I correct that, due to Hushbringer's presence, the ability that Giver of Runes gained from the Serra Paragon ("When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, exile it and you gain 2 life") fails to trigger, once again sending the Giver of Runes back to the graveyard rather than to exile?

Unless I'm missing something, this little combo provides infinite recursion (granted at only one cast per turn) for <4 cmc creatures, but it's entirely possible I've missed something.

That's correct. If a creature cast with Serra Paragon's ability dies, that means the triggered ability granted to it by the Paragon would be triggered by a creature dying, so the Hushbringer in your example will stop it from triggering. It won't get exiled and you won't gain life.
