How does Genesis Wave actually work?

Asked by Aion6202 8 years ago

Genesis Wave goes off for, lets say 10 (this is in elves, totally doable). I pull a Shaman of the Pack, 5 other elves, 3 lands, and one spell I can't put I to play. When Shaman of the Pack enters the battlefield, does it count all the elves that came with it off the Genesis Wave? Or just the ones that were there prior?

Whenever a spell or a triggered or activated ability requires information about the game state, it checks that information when it resolves. Shaman of the Pack's ability will resolve and see all of the Elves that you controlled prior to Genesis Wave as well as those that entered through Genesis Wave.

Even if it checked on triggering, though, it would still see all of the other cards you put onto the battlefield with Genesis Wave because those cards enter simultaneously. Note also that this isn't really unique to Genesis Wave. Even if you were using Primal Surge, which puts the cards onto the battlefield in the order in which they are revealed, triggered abilities that trigger during the resolution of something aren't put onto the stack until after the current resolution process is complete.
