How does Forced Adaptation interact with Heroic?

If I cast Forced Adaptation on Setessan Oathsworn, does he get 1 counter on spell cast or 3 counters on spell cast?
In subsequent upkeeps, does he get 1 or 3 counters?

On cast - 2, because of the ability of Setessan Oathsworn.
On every following upkeep - 1, because the ability of Adaptation is just an ability, while the Heroic text specifies that it is triggered by "spells" targeting the creature.
