How do multiple animate land effects work?

Asked by mtgirem 9 years ago

Say I have a Life and Limb and Liege of the Tangle . I put an awakening counter on a bunch of my forests. Are they considered 1/1 saprolings or 8/8 elementals?

Additionally because of Life and Limb 's saproling to forest mechanic, can I then put awakening counters on the saprolings to make them 8/8 elementals?

I have similar questions with Living Terrain , Animate Land , etc. Does the controller of those spells get to choose which effect is counted or is it based on which was cast first?

This falls under the "layers" section of the rules which can get pretty complex but in this case it's pretty simple. The newest effect is going to be the one that takes precedence so, you're lands that were 1/1 saprolings will now be 8/8 elementals.

You're second question is a simple "yes," b/c the saprolings are now lands. It works just like you'd think.

I believe you should have the answer to your third question at this point.

Timestamps would apply here. If you have two effects, then the most recent one takes precedence.

Thus, the Foresaprolings would be 8/8 elementals. You can also put counters on your Saprolings, since they are lands.
