Grimgrin, Corpse-Born 1st ability question!

Asked by Sephirothusa 8 years ago

Hi guys!

I was wondering if I can sacrifice a creature to put +1/+1 on Grimgrin, Corpse-Born if he's already untapped? Or HE MUST be tapped in order for me to be able to use that ability? Thanks in advance

You don't have to untap him as a cost (as you would have to with the symbol, or if it said so before the colon), so you can activate the ability. When the ability resolves, you get to untap him, which won't be all that useful if he's already untapped. Either way, you get the +1/+1 counter.

Either way, in general tapped creatures can be tapped and untapped creature can be untapped - it just won't accomplish anything (i.e. nothing actually happens to the creature as a result of its tapping/untapping).

This is why cards that want to use tapping creatures as a cost, like Cloudgoat Ranger, always explicitly say "Tap three untapped Kithkin you control.."
