Giving a creature Shroud after it's been targeted cause the spell to fizzle correct?

Asked by Alice-Is-Gone 9 years ago

Say someone Doom Blades (or some other spell/ability) your creature, right? And in response you give it Shroud, what happens to the Doom Blade?

My thoughts would be that because of the way it enters the Stack the Doom Blade would be required to choose another creature because the original target can no longer be targeted. Either that or because the spell was already cast, the Doom Blade would just fizzle with no target and go straight to their graveyard.

In such the instance: In my deck I run Leonin Shikari, allowing me to equip equipment to a creature at any time you could play an instant. So hand in hand with that I'm running Lightning Greaves for the Haste and Shroud. My opponent targets one of my creatures, so in response I move my Lightning Greaves to the targeted creature, henceforth giving it shroud. Now that the target creature can't be targeted any more.

Link all cards in your question.
Doom Blade

You do not get to reselect targets for a spell or ability unless an effect specifically tells you to do so. If a spell or ability would resolve and all of its targets are illegal, that spell or ability is countered by the game rules instead. None of its effects happen.
