Gideons vs. Wither

Asked by clayperce 5 years ago

I wanted to get a second opinion on this one:

Say my opp 0s her Gideon Jura and attacks, and I block with a Boggart Ram-Gang.

If Gideon was a just a vanilla "6/6 Human Soldier creature that's still a planeswalker", he would lose a Loyalty counter and gains a -1/-1 counter, due to ...

  • 119.3. Damage may have one or more of the following results ...
  • 119.3b Damage dealt to a planeswalker causes that many loyalty counters to be removed from that planeswalker.
  • 119.3c Damage dealt to a creature by a source with wither causes that many -1/-1 counters to be put on that creature.

However, since Gideon has "Prevent all damage that would be dealt to him this turn", it seems there would be no effect.

Bottom line: The Ram Gang dies, and there is no effect on Gideon. Is that right?

Thanks much!

Gideon is unaffected.

Here's how it works. "This card deals damage in the form of..." doesn't do anything if the card doesn't deal damage. If damage is prevented damage wasn't dealt.
