Does the Gitrog cleanup combo allow instants

Asked by Temporal_Inept 5 years ago

I understand the basics of the cleanup combo and The Gitrog Monster but have a question. Once, the trigger for a land draw goes on the stack, are players allowed to play instants or is still considered the cleanup phase?

It's still the cleanup step, but yes, players are allowed to make responses to the trigger. Players aren't normally given priority during the cleanup step, but if something happens to cause an ability to trigger then the ability is put onto the stack and the active player is given priority. Players will then go back and forth taking actions and passing in the usual way.

You can also cast an instant after the trigger resolves, if you drew an instant or card with flash you wanted to cast. Once all players pass priority there is another cleanup step. This process repeats until there is a cleanup step in which no state based actions are checked and no triggered abilities trigger.
