Does 'Deus of Calamity' trigger twice with Mage Slayer?

Asked by xseiber 8 years ago

Could be a dumb question because of possible misinterpretation but...if I have a Deus of Calamity and it is equipped with a Mage Slayer, when it attacks and for the sake of this question the attack goes through 100%, would Mage Slayer having triggered first and dealing 6 damage, thus triggering Deus of Calamity's land destruction effect and resolving; then its attack goes through dealing another 6 damage and triggering its land destruction ability again and then resolves. Is that correct?

Tl;dr Would Deus of Calamity's ability trigger twice during an attack while being equipped with a Mage Slayer and getting a hit in, unhindered?

"This ability will trigger when Deus of Calamity deals 6 damage to an opponent at one time. It wont keep track of the accumulated damage that it deals at different times."~From MTG Gatherer

So I assume it doesn't trigger twice? If I read that correctly. However, also from gatherer,

"This ability triggers from any damage, not just combat damage, that Deus of Calamity deals to an opponent in increments of 6 or more."

So I guess it really depends on if Mage Slayer triggers and resolves before blockers are declared and normal combat damage happens.

If it triggers and resolves before combat damage then yes, it triggers both times.

Gidgetimer always getting right to the point with shortness and sweetness. lol. :p

Like he said, it will trigger 2 times because Deuce's ability's triggering condition is "whenever 6 damage is dealt...". It doesn't matter how or when this damage is dealt, or even if it's combat damage. As long as at least 6 damage is dealt by the Deuce in any one instance, it's ability will trigger.

It has been brought to my attention that I am sometimes needlessly verbose and that I sometimes cause unintended afront. Because I could not think of a kind way to say all that I wanted to, I kept it short.
