Does a split card interfere with color identity?

Asked by Teferi-3030 5 years ago

Does a split card that is White Black work in a U and B Brawl deck? One side is split mana and one has black and white mana separately. I’m worried that it is prevented by a U and B commander’s color identity.

Just like Commander/EDH, in a Brawl deck all the cards must fall within the commander's color identity.

A split card like Revival / Revenge has a color identity of WB. It will not work in a Commander or Brawl deck with a commander like Lazav, the Multifarious because the commander's color identity is UB.

As an additional note, hybrid mana still counts as both colors. Divinity of Pride only has WB hybrid mana in its cost. It can be used in a mono-white or mono-black casual deck just fine. But you can't put it in a mono-white or mono-black Commander/Brawl deck, because the card's color identity is WB.
