Curse of Echoes and Increasing Ambition

Asked by UmbrotheUmbreon 10 years ago

If a player is enchanted with Curse of Echoes and casts Increasing Ambition from the graveyard, do the other players get to search for 2 cards or 1 card?

1 card since they're not casting it from graveyard. They're not actually even casting it at all.

Colgate is incorrect. First, the Increasing Ambition is cast from the graveyard, so it would get the caster 2 cards. Then the spell is copied by Curse of Echoes . The copy will have the exact same characteristics of the copied spell, such as whether or not the original was cast from the graveyard, similar to how X-values are copied. Therefore, each player will search for 2 cards.

@Titans

Where a spell was cast from is not a copiable value. Colgate, unless I missed a ruling somewhere, is actually correct.

Colgate's initial answer was right. The copies made by Curse of Echoes weren't cast from anywhere.

This may help. 601.2a The player announces that he or she is casting the spell. That card (or that copy of a card) moves from where it is to the stack. It becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has all the characteristics of the card (or the copy of a card) associated with it, and that player becomes its controller. The spell remains on the stack until its countered, it resolves, or an effect moves it elsewhere.

Ok, sorry about that. I thought I heard that somewhere.
