Conspiracy rules interaction

So I already know that MaRo has said "Monarch" will be a legal ability in EDH. So I was thinking it over how it might fit in my mono-White deck. Turns out Guardian of the Throne is a pretty sweet card. My question is this: Can I redirect the damage to Guardian of the Throne with his ability, and activate Mother of Runes to prevent that damage? #Winning?
(Sorry for not tagging Guardian of the Throne, he isn't in the database yet)
Guardian of the Throne 5W
Creature - Giant
When Guardian of the Throne enters the battlefield, you become the monarch.
If damage would be dealt to you, you may instead have that damage be dealt to Protector of the Throne.
2/5
Thanks! That's what I thought, but I wanted to know for sure before I went out and bought the new card. I appreciate it!

If you're going for a casual (non-standard) deck, Palisade Giant has the same ability but better as it protects your permanents too.

I was asking for my competitive EDH Avacyn deck. I need the Guardian for the card draw, not the damage prevention. (Also, Avacyn protects my permanents). Thanks though!

Yes you can. The replacement effect of the damage being dealt doesn't change where the damage is coming from. If a Grizzly Bears is attacking, you may have that damage redirected to your Guardian of the Throne and give him pro-Green from Mother of Runes to prevent the damage.
