Can i use a ability that causes a card to tap when that card enters the battlefield?

Asked by McSween7 9 years ago

So I've built a deck with tokens and I have included two cards:

Thraben Doomsayer

Skirsdag High Priest

Both have abilities that force them to tap, but can i use these abilities on the turn they enter the battlefield? Or does summoning sickness affect them?

No, summonning sickness prevents tapping of a creature, unless you have controlled it since the start of your most recent turn.

Side note: for Skirsdag High Priest's ability, the other creatures you tap as an additional cost can have summoning sickness. It's not their ability with the symbol that you're activating, so it's okay to tap them for it.

Boza thanks, so I can use Thraben Doomsayer 's ability as soon as he enters the battlefield?

No, you cannot. Though if you have 5 or less life, the second ability will be "live" as soon as the creature enters the battlefield.
