Can Lavinia of the Tenth potentially detain opponents for multiple turns?

Asked by eddiehyer22 4 years ago

If I cast Lavinia of the Tenth and then deal combat damage with Brago, King Eternal and blink Lavinia, will my opponents nonland permanents be detained until my next two turns? In other words can you stack Lavinia effects the way you can with say Stonehorn Dignitary?

No, it doesn't work that way. Lavinia creates an effect that lasts "until your next turn". If you create multiple copies of this effect together, they'll all wear off at the beginning of your next turn.

The reason Stonehorn Dignitary works the way it does is because a skipped step/phase never happens. If you create multiple "skip the next combat phase" effects with the Dignitary, they wait around until the next time that event would occur. When it does, only one of them can apply to make your opponent skip it, and the rest of the effects have to wait around until the next time the event would occur. Again, only one of them can be applied when you get there.
