Argothian Wurm - respond to land sac?

Asked by brcap 8 years ago

I believe my question boils down whether Argothian Wurm's second clause is a triggered ability or a replacement effect.

The etb effect is obviously triggered, I'm talking about whether or not I can respond to my opponents choice to sac a land.

I.e. If They chose to sac, can I unsummon my wurm in response (to prevent it from returning to the top of my library)?

The Wurm's second ability is a triggered ability that triggers when the Wurm enters the battlefield. Once an ability has started resolving, no player can cast any spells or activate abilities, until the ability has finished resolving. So you don't get a chance to respond to your opponent's choice.

Also, you will not know until the ability begins to resolve (which at that point it's too late to Unsummon), if a play will choose to sac a land or not, as it is a May ability and is chosen upon resolution.

I think that's something you were also questioning.
