Answer Quick! Bile Blight on Protection from Black?

Asked by Phyrexia108 9 years ago

I am playing against my friend. I use Bile Blight on his Soldier of the Pantheon , he has another Soldier of the Pantheon in play. He uses Feat of Resistance giving the targeted Soldier of the Pantheon protection from black. Does the other Soldier of the Pantheon die?

No. If all of a spell's targets are illegal before it starts resolving, it gets countered by the rules. A countered spell has no effect at all.

Yes sir! Sorry for the delay sir!

Always check Gatherer first:

"If the target creature is an illegal target as Bile Blight tries to resolve, it will be countered and none of its effects will happen. No creature will get -3/-3."

The other Soldier of the Pantheon won't die, because Bile Blight will fizzle due to all of its targets being illegal at the time of resolution.
