Volcanic Strength vs Riot Gear

I have Volcanic Strength in my deck werewolfs revenge (standard pauper) thats just there to give my creatures some survivability, its only a 1 time cost of 1 red mana/1 colorless mana to attach it to a creature, gives it +2/2 and has the potential to give my creature mountainwalk, that being said, Riot Gear is another potential survivability card i was looking at, its 2 colorless mana to drop with an additional 2 mana to eqiup it for +1/2 thats reusable and switchable, now getting +1/0 less, no potential mountainwalk and having to pay and extra 2 mana making it slower sounds like a bad deal, but my creatures die, alot, and thats kinda the point, but i do want some of them to last me longer than a few turns so i guess my big question is, should i trade speed, an extra attack point and situational evasion for gear that'll last me the whole game?
i am more of a fan of Madcap Skills that double block can be really handy sneaking in damage

ok then i would hesitantly say Riot Gear i am just more a fan of equipment, it also avoids the casting trigger

i really like the idea of playing it when i have nothing else to play, that it survives even if the creature dies and that it can be switched if i need to switch it, the volcanic strength really just has speed on its side, heres my deck so you can see what im talking about Werewolf's Revenge (Standard Pauper)

Volcanic Strength is used in the sideboard for the mirror match or any deck that has red. Even if it's slapped onto a 1/1, the three damage per turn UNBLOCKABLE puts your opponent on a nasty clock. If it's put on a 2/2, it puts your creature out of range of Searing Spear .
Madcap Skills is a strong mainboard card, but sets you up to get two-for-one'd if they have something like Murder or Abrupt Decay .
Riot Gear just costs too much mana to get going.

This is not a rules-related question. Moved to the forums.
