We got 2 new origins spoilers and best of all, we got a new mechanic!!!!!!!!!! Spell mastery. If you have 2 or more instant or sorceries in your graveyard, extra stuff happens.

Here are the spoilers:

Chandra's Ignition

Ravaging Blaze

Chandra's Ignition

3RR

Sorcery

Target creature you control deals damage equal to its power to each other creature and each opponent.

Ravaging Blaze

XRR

Instant

Ravaging Blaze deals X damage to target creature.

Spell Mastery - If there are two or more instant and/or sorcery cards in your graveyard, Ravaging Blaze also deals X damage to that creature's controller.

Looks like I may have to move into R/U control.

We have a spoiler thread. It's right [here]. Let's try to keep the forum clutter to a minimum :)

It looks pretty interesting. A nuisance that you have to target a creature FIRST for it to work, but it looks like a fun mechanic.

I hope spell mastery isn't stuck to 2 or more. That's not hard to trigger at all! Doesn't seem very 'spell mastery'-ish to me. If it was 4 or me then I feel it would be more thematic.

I think it will Chief. Or maybe it depends on the CMC?

Also, there are two threads right next to each other that talk about this mechanic on the home page XD

chandra's ignition would be great with some prowess creature that is large. Ravaging blaze is just amazing. IN most cases it will be:

: This spell deals X damage to target creature and target player.

chandra's ignition would be really fun with several other mechanics:

Deathtouch: BOARDWIPE!!!

Lifelink: Lots of Life.

Infect: -1/-1 and poison counters for everyone!

I think that the way it's formatted means that it will always have the same conditions (2 instants/sorceries). It's basically the same as Morbid or Metalcraft, so the effect changes, but the cause stays the same.

Eh. Lame.

Thats too easy to trigger, in my opinion.

Like in modern you're just going to trigger that all the time after T2 and occasionally after T1. I was hoping it might actually be a challenge.

The problem with a mechanic like that is that because it's always going to be fairly easy to trigger they can't make it do really powerful things.

Obviously as something becomes harder to achieve the payout is larger. If a trigger is easy to achieve then the payout will be fairly small.

the payout on ravaging blaze is pretty large

Not from a modern perspective.

Let's put it this way: for 3RR you get 3 damage to a creature, and 3 damage to a player.

Searing Blaze can do this for 2 mana. Searing Blood does a little less for 2 mana.

If you add a Searing Spear effect to a Lava Spike or something it shouldn't cost 5 mana.

Yeah honestly, it's a bomb in Standard, but Modern doesn't really do Fireball-type effects.

so far I have liked all of the spoilers, I think chandra walker is gas...but both chandra and jace have activated abilities that require them to tap in order to transform, and both die to every removal imaginable without getting the luxury of flipping into their walker selves. This fact alone will limit their inclusion in decks I think, but I like all the walker designs so far.
