Cockatrice Players: Why are you such jerks?

It seems that hiding behind computer interfaces turns some people into total jerks. Why can't you just be kind people?

Some people take out their anger in forums/mediums where they feel there are no consequences.

b/c there is no accountability on Cockatrice. It's a lot harder to be an asshole on MTGO b/c of the community managers and the fact you can report people. In fact I reported someone for unsportsmanlike conduct during a match where I showed them that I can't get them to 0, and instead only to 1. He replied "suck it" and nothing else, so I reported him for being a dick.

you can technically report people but the admins tend to have a laissez faire approach to disputes unless they personally feel offended. If I had any cash to spend, i'd ditch trice for mtgo in a second. it's worth it.

As an aside, sometimes Cockatrice players don't know the rules. I had a guy say that for Cruel Sadist you could pay X life for X +1/+1 counters, which it doesn't. RTFC, guys...it's not that hard.

Let's face it: Nerds are dicks. For us to have the upper hand (or feel wronged that we lost) at anything makes our internet penis swell so much that it gets hard to be graceful. Couple in that there is no visible consequences and you have the situation you've been experiencing. I don't play MTGO or Cockatrice too often, but I experience my fair share from playing Madden. If you can be humble in both winning or losing, any of the trolls you're facing that have a conscience will change their tune. I've had people actually apologize. Keep your cool and be the bigger man. And for those that continue to be dicks? Fuck em. They're the ones that have nothing else in life that they're good at, and saying anything else to them only feeds their flame. Let em be dicks. Half of the gratification of being a dick is the response from the other side.

Well.... There is actually many nice people out there. It's just only the jerks that you really remember. Like, if there is 3 normal people, and 1 jerk, you automatically feel, that everyone is a jerk. That is actually quite unfair.
But yes, it is easier to be rude online. People can say "F*** you", and then just leave without any consequences.

I don't play online but have experienced it in person several times, I've heard it called "smug nerd syndrome"

It's always so online. Just look at Youtube comments. When there's some kind of argument everybody basically just says "If you don't agree with me you're a stupid dumbass, fuck off". The anonymity online just changes peoples behaviour. It's that way basically everywhere exept on T/O and I keep wondering why all these jerks aren't here, too.

Great illustration of the phenomenon FalkensteinAZ!
Of course, everyone should know by now that some people are dicks, and people online are more likely to be dicks.

I'll admit to being suseptable to this phenominon. On T/O I think that I've been a relativley nice person, and if I feel I can contribute I can, but let's say I'm playing LoL (League of Legends) I, admittedly, become the very bane of the internet and deserve every ban I get. I believe its an atmospheric thing. I play with people who take it seriously and they are not nice when they lose, so I become like that. On T/O it started out with nice people, that attracted nice people, and now the atmosphere is nice. So everybody is nice. :)

I play on untap.in and I haven't ran into any jerks. Some people are ruder than others but nobody is a complete asshole.

I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said. But can we just take a moment to appreciate that flow chart? Thank you, Ohthenoises, thank you for that wonderful thing.

My opponent was playing Serum Visions like Brainstorm. I told him that's not the right way to do it. He told me to stfu and learn how to play. Then he kicked me.
