What Happened to Jace's Relationship with Vraska?

During the Ixalan block, Jace and Vraska formed a relationship, but, thus far, in the story for Zendikar Rising, Vraska has scarcely been mentioned, so what happened to the relationship that she and Jace had?

probably nothing, shes just off doing her own thing.

Vraska's on the hunt for Dovin Baan. Perhaps it will surface later.

Further reading says they are drifting apart again because of the events of WAR. Also Vraska has completed the Baan task and is now back on Ravnica as Guildleader being controlled/blackmailed by Lazav. Still, we may yet catch Jace reminiscing in the ZNR story yet, I mean there was a kiss and all. XD

I mean Jace does have a history of memory issues, so I wouldn't be entirely too surprised if he had trouble uncovering/unearthing the memory of this relationship from his past.

Mj3913, why is Lazav blackmailing Vraska?

DemonDragonJ Niv charged Vraska with Dovin Baan's execution. Lazav sent an assasin to kill Dovin after she tried to fake Dovins death. Upon returning to Ravnica Lazav reveals he has the upper hand and says she must dance to his tune or he'll let the cat out of the bag. I believe it was in the last book.

Mj3913, I see; I currently do not have the time to read the books, so I am not concerned about spoilers, and I do expect the writers to revisit that plot point, at some time in the future.

When Vraska tracked down Dovin he made a deal with her. She would allow him to live in exchange for him giving her strategic advice for how to consolidate her hold on the Golgari throne. They faked his death by convincing Chandra that she blasted him into a pool of lava. Just prior to Chandra's fireball Vraska cut off Dovin's hand which they used as proof of kill.

Lazav then had his assassin Atkos Tarr kill Dovin who was hiding on Ravnica. Vraska found Dovin's body missing the other hand. All she knows is that someone knew about Dovin's continued existence and that they have his hand as proof. The blackmail has not yet been initiated but she knows it will come. She is also forced to come up with her own ways of securing her power instead of Dovin's surefire plans. This was revealed to us to be just one piece of a plot between Lazav and Tezzeret to gain control of all of the guilds. They tried to set up Ral but he told the truth instead of trying to hide the fact that he had failed to kill Tezzeret.

As for Jace and Vraska, the writing has been placed on the wall. Jace realized at the end of Forsaken that she has already returned to her old ways of operating and that she will try to hide that from him. Jace believes they will start drifting farther apart.

RicketyEng, what about all of Vraska's character development during the Ixalan block? Did both she and the writers completely forget about that? Did not Jace restore her memory?

During The Gathering Storm it was actually a telepathic kraul ally of Vraska's who managed to detect and undo Jace's handiwork in her mind. It ended up taking Jace longer than he expected to try to convince Nissa to help out against the upcoming invasion so he was late returning to Ravnica. Vraska and Jace's plan to sabotage Bolas never came to fruition or even got much of a chance to be attempted.

After Vraska got her memories back it took her a little while to sort through things in her own mind. She did agree to cooperate with Ral and Kaya to some extent in their efforts to unite the guilds. Ultimately she betrayed Ral, Kaya, and Lavinia because Bolas threatened the Golgari. She basically gave up on the idea that he could be resisted so she tried to at least make sure her people would survive whatever Bolas had planned.

About half way through the one day war Vraska mobilized the Golgari on the side of Ravnica and the planeswalkers. She and Jace finally met after being apart for a couple of months and neither was quite sure of their relationship status. After Bolas was defeated they kissed, agreed that their Tin Street date was still on, but decided to retire to Vraska's quarters instead.

As I described above, instead of being the honest and good leader she was on Ixalan, being the Golgari guild leader started pushing her back into old habits. Jace also realized that she would always choose the Golgari over him. She chose to stay on Ravnica to deal with guild business instead of accompanying him on a short "vacation" to Vryn now that he can remember where he came from.

PS. We still don't know anything at all about if or how Jace's trip to Vryn went.

RicketyEng, Jace returned to Vryn? How could WotC not have an entire set or block dedicated to that, as happened with Chandra returning to Kaladesh?

Also, I am very sad to learn that Jace's relationship with Vraska did not work out, and that her character development was undone. I shall mention Caerwyn now to say that this is another aspect of storytelling that severely bothers me; far too many stories have instances in which characters grow and develop, and then that development is forgotten at the end of the story or in a sequel; in series such as The Simpsons or Family Guy, such a lack of continuity is expected, although still frustrating, but in more serious stories, such as these, readers expect the character to grow, develop, and learn from their experiences, so it feels like a complete betrayal to the readers to undo all of the great character development from the Ixalan block.
