I would like to know what is generally a good amount of land to run in a commander deck.
Unless you're playing Azusa, Lost but Seeking 36-39 is general what I see. But it really depends on your deck.

OK thank you. I am used to making standard decks, so I wasn't sure what a good amount would be. So once again thank you.

As previously, it depends on your deck. I have 60ish in my deck Tasigur's Courtroom because it helps make Tasigur a little better and faster.

Really you want to play around with the land base. I tend to choose below 35 for my decks but most of them have 3 cmc commanders

This is going to be an alesha deck so then should I keep the lands to around 35?

I run 34-38 lands in most of my decks, though my mono color low CMC ones can get away with 30-32. It really depends on the deck.

I never run more than 35 lands... No matter what commander I use. But then you really need to assure your land drops by ramping, a good amount of draw or tutors like Weathered Wayfarer

If you are going with 35 make sure you have a dozen or so pieces of ramp.
I run 78+ lands in one of my decks, so it depends on the deck.

Like I said earlier play around with the deck see what works for you. Play test the deck see how often you flood out vs how often you are mana screwed. If you are running more colors more land is better. High cmc commanders require more mana as well. A lot of people try to find a hard and fast rule for edh but really the only hard and fast rule is try the deck out and see what works along with what doesn't then move on from there

OK so now I'm going to add about 14 lands and play around with it and see how it goes.

Mathematically, 37 is the correct number if you want the lowest amount of mana screwed or mana flooded games. I subtract 1 for 1 on ramp that costs 2 or less and ignore any ramp costing 3 or more.

OK so here is my findings as of now I don't know if it is helpful or not but here goes.
At the start I had 19 sources for many. There was 9 sources for red, 8 sources for white, and 6 sources for black. I added 8 mountains, 4 plains, and 1 swamp. That brought the total number of sources for red to 17, white to 12, and black to 7. Drawing for my first draw after the fit change I had 1 mountain. I then reshuffled and drew back to 7 and had 3 plains and 1 swamp and then no lands for 5 turns.
For my second Change I added 2 mountains, 1 plains, and 1 swamp. That brought the total sources up to red with 19, white with 13, and black with 8. In my first draw for change 2 I had no lands. Second draw I had 1 mountain and 1 plains. I then checked the number of land in the first 25 cards there was 3 mountain, 4 plains, 2 swamps, and 1 Ghitu Encampment. My third draw had 1 plains, 1 swamp, and 1 Scoured Barrens. In the first 25 of my third draw I had 1 Bloodfell Caves, 1 Scoured Barrens, 3 mountains, 3 plains, and 2 swamps.

Perhaps you need to put some more money into your mana Base :/

I probably should but I'm trying to keep this budget so that's why it's mainly basic lands.

How budget is the deck? I would say around 40%+ of a budget should go towards lands in a multi color deck.
Could you link the deck, and tell us the budget you have for it?

On the budget I'm thinking nothing over 3 bucks a card.

If I came up with a list of lands that fit that budget, would that be something you were interested in?

It's very much dependent on your mana curve, deck style, card choices and the commander you run.
My sliver edh runs 34 lands, whereas my borbogorymos deck runs 46.
-Fulcrum says... #2
Rule of thumb is 40 lands, subtracting 1 for each 2 sources of ramp you have. Of course, you may need more or less depending on what kind of deck you're running, but 40 in Commander is kinda like the 24 in traditional 60 card decks.
For example, my Commander deck has 37 lands. By the rule, that would mean I have 6 pieces of ramp. No, I have 12.
