Q&A second effect of karador

Asked by jericho666 9 years ago

I have a problem with understanding a part in in karadors second effect. cause i have been playing him as my commander for a long time now, and i totally like to play with him.

my problem: when i'm in my main phase and have karador on the field and i want to cast a creature from my graveyard and my oppponent would have, lets say a Scavenging Ooze or a Withered Wretch on the field.

the moment i cast a creature from my graveyard with karadors effect, my opponent reacts with the effect of ooze or wretch, whechever you like more, and tries to exile the creature i attempt to cast. Is this possible???

In my opinion it is impossible because i'm already casting the creature and not really targeting the creature. This is because karadors second effect does not use the stack or something. something i've read in the little rules i could find.can somebody plz enlighten me on this subject and explain me this?

I'm no expert but the text is "During each of your turns, you may cast one creature card from your graveyard."

This ability does not target therefor your opponent would not know what your casting. Also as soon as you pass from draw to main phase you receive priority so if you do it before you put out a land the creature is cast and cannot be reacted to (by those mentioned cards). Also if the creature has flash you can cast it during ANY phase of your turn.

Now if you play a land and your opponent reacts by using those abilities on a creature in your graveyard then you exile it

Rules questions belong in the Q&A, which is linked in the header bar. I can't move this to the Q&A, so I'm moving it to BE.

Link all cards in your question.
Karador, Ghost Chieftain

@Arctic: You're partially incorrect.

First, the ability creates a static effect that allows you to cast a creature card from your graveyard. To begin the casting process, you announce the spell and put it onto the stack. Players don't have priority during the casting process, so they can't respond to you announcing your creature spell. They have to wait until the casting process is complete, at which time they can respond to the spell. The creature will no longer be in the graveyard.

@Arctic: Playing a land doesn't use the stack, and it doesn't cause priority to pass. You can play a land and then cast a creature spell without ever passing priority first.

Note that your opponent can still preemptively remove a creature card from your graveyard during any of the phases during which you can't cast that card.

Hm thanks for that correction Epochalyptik I was under the impression players could react to land drops (several people in my play group do so, guess we will have to have a discussion about that lol).
