Why 20 lands? Our cc is close to 3-4.

First, Aether Vial allows us to cheat a bit in this regard. We can still play most of our stuff. Secondly we do have some amount of card draw and ramp in the forms of Wall of Omens and Coiling Oracle. We mainly want to get to 3 or 4 lands per game and grind out the win from there.

Too many lands is an issue for this deck because we can run out of fuel easily. We are NOT playing cards that win the game automatically. We are playing cards that delay, frustrate the opponents plan, and grab us incremental advantage. In aggro match ups we want to delay the onslaught until we have enough blockers and can counter all their spells. In control match ups we hold our cards and play in response to our opponent (vial in creatures, flash in snakes and spell quellers to protect from targeted removal etc). If we draw to many lands we eventually run out of fuel to keep this up.

I started this deck at 22 lands and it felt like i kept having 3 lands and no fuel to help me win the game. So now instead i usually get 1-2 land hands and a card draw effect or vial to help me get to 3.
