Alright everyone, thank you all for all of your submissions. We hava lot of very cool concepts and cards this time around. So now its is time to vote. Here are your finalists:

Undead Ravager by IronHead
Comments
The design team had no real problems with the current design of the card. Comments indicated that this card would play very well with Momento.

Suggestions
No suggestions for change
Tharin'l's Remorse by landot
Comments
The design team liked the utility of this card but the power level was a bit too high.

Suggestions
Suggestions by the design team were to either change the CMC from 4 to 5 or make the third choice be only one creature card.
Thought Dissection by backyardmetal
Comments
The design team generally like the utility and disruption this card caused.

Suggestions
No suggestions for change
Revival of the Fittest by dude1818
Comments
Overall we liked this card a lot. It seemed like it could be a really nice piece to quite a few decks. Our concerns were mostly related to casting cost and card type. Some concerns about balance related to the activation costs was also expressed.

Suggestions
The new casting cost of 2BB was suggested just because it plays better in a multicolored set. The design team also felt that this would make a good creature at 2/2 or 2/1 for the 2BB cost. Some people on the design team liked the activation cost as is. Some wanted it to go away with the CC increase and others still wanted it increased.
Rebirthing the Spoiled by Mpz5
Comments
Only comment was that this card is a bit more BU card than a monoblack from a color wheel perspective, but we all still liked it. It is useful for recursion and ramp, so we all liked it.

Suggestions
No suggestions for changes made
Artemil the Grave Shaman by Spoofed
Comments
All members of the design team liked the card, but all of us determined that the cost needed to have less black in it.

Suggestions
The suggestions for this card that were made are to change the CC to 3BB or 4B. No other changes suggested.
Lingering Pursuit by BrownDog5117
Comments
Some suggested that the casting cost was too high with the loss of life included. But decreasing it would make it potentially a better Reanimate.

Suggestions
Possibly change casting cost to 1B or B. May be decided during playtesting to be OP at those costs.
K'haln of the Lost by Exclaminator
Comments
The creature types on the original card here did not make sense to the design team. Zombies and shamans do not do much with land. The activation cost of the second ability was also discussed as an opportunity to make it fit the shard better.

Suggestions
Suggestion is to make this guy a Creature - Elf Druid and possibly changing the activation cost to {G} rather than {2}.
Kashiri of the Redeemed by Exclaminator
Comments
Now this card we really liked the ability, but the card was overall unbalanced and the creature type needs to change.

Suggestions
This is what we suggest the finished card look like.
Nkhalar of the risen
BB
Creature-Elf Necromancer

Skip your drawstep
At the beginning of your upkeep return a creature card from your graveyard to your hand if you can't sacrafice CARDNAME.
2/1
Kashiri of the Redeemed by Exclaminator
Comments
With this card again we felt like the ability was creative and worth investing time in, but the card had balance problems.

Suggestions
We liked the casting cost at either 4B or 3B since the activation cost was prohibitive and we liked the activation cost as {1}{B} reather than {3}. The power and toughness would be better at 2/1 or 3/2.

Vote 1: Revival of the Fittest. I agree with changing the cost to 2BB. I like it as an enchantment, but if it does become a creature, I think it should be a 2/3 Elf Shaman with "Whenever another nontoken creature dies..." so that it doesn't affect itself.

Vote 2: Undead Ravager. I think it would be more flavorful for X to be equal to the sacrificed creature's power.

Vote 3: Lingering Pursuit. I like the cost as-is. Maybe give the creature haste to make it worth it? "As an additional cost to cast Lingering Pursuit, pay 5 life. Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. That creature gains haste until end of turn."

1 : Thought Dissection.

I really like this card. I would definately play it as is and feel it requires no changes.

2 : K'haln of the Lost.

Its flavor brings both recursion and ramp which I feel fits nicely into the shard. I agree with changing it to Elf Druid, or perhaps Elf Druid Zombie if he is meant to be undead. Also, rather than just (2) or (G) I think I would make the ability just TAP, otherwise it seems like this could get out of hand very quickly.

3 : Tharin'l's Remorse.

I like the idea of this card, however I feel that by its nature of opponent's choice, this card will in some situations just be completely overpowered, while at other times a potentially dead card in hand. To retain its utility in more situations and bring the power level down I bit, I would do this : "Target opponent chooses two - that opponent sacrifices a creature; or that opponent loses 4 life; or you return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield."

Vote 1: Artemil the Grave Shaman

It's a great idea, and green/black decks could totally use it. I agree with the head team on its mana cost.

Vote 2: Rebirthing the Spoiled

No comment. It's probably the best card there.

Vote 3: Revival of the Fittest

A good card, and I agree with the head team on its mana cost.

ARTEMIL THE GRAVE SHAMAN.-awesome flavor-decent mana cost-if momento is a more black ability, it can help the other color elvesas well-a change to 4B in CMC would make it easier to put into a multicolored elf deck

its really the only rare i feel deserves my vote.

You mixed up the comments on the last two cards, as far as Kashiri I think it can have a bit more power as the essence was a beater wich you can't cast early because of the payment, but the otherway around it's still a fine card. and it combo's nicely with K'haln of the Lost, and I agree on the creature types.

I also think it's realy cool that i have all my cards placed for the first time that I enter this contest, thanks!

and i think Thought Dissection is op, but it's a realy cool card.

Vote 1: K'haln of the Lost.

Vote 2: Lingering Pursuit

Vote 3: Undead Ravager (Reminds me of Arcbound Ravager , only more flavour-ful)

Vote 1 - Lingering Pursuit

Vote 2 - Undead Ravager

Vote 3 - Revival of the Fittest - Maybe exile the creature as well? I can definitely see a mana cost increase.. to 2BB

  1. Undead Ravager - The cmc clause is meant to stop it from being abused from tokens. However if people want to be able to feed tokens to it I'd be fine with making X equal to power or toughness. Heck I even considered an Phyrexian Ingester type effect.
  2. Artemil the Grave Shaman by with the chance in the mana cost to 3BB
  3. Lingering Pursuit with no change.

Vote 1 - Undead Ravager - IMO I like the idea of giving it a more tribal theme by adding a second ability:

Sacrifice 5 zombies: Undead Ravager gets +10/+10 until end of turn. If a token was sacrificed this way, sacrifice Undead Ravager at the beginning of the next end step.

Or just give it intimidate.

(BTW I got excited by the idea and felt like sharing, I was too late to submit my own)

Vote 2 - Lingering Pursuit - I like it the way it is, though because of its name I would like to give it a 'pursuing' feel such as intimidate or trample, though that might be a bit weird.

Vote 3 - K'haln of the Lost

  • I agree that it should be an elf and have an activation of green, or the effect should make the land become a swamp and the activation cost be black

I became soo excited seeing this and I really wish I had heard of it before. I would have submitted stuff. Is there anything else like this coming up?

July 14, 2011 11:08 p.m.

vote: revival of the fittest

only change suggestion, add 1 cmc onto the manna cost making it 1BBB

Kashiri of the Redeemed: I would however like to make the changes the design team suggested. Interesting card to build around for sure.

Rebirthing the Spoiled: I had submitted it reading "this turn" rather than "this way" which would make it an answer to a field wipe or spot removal as well but it's cool if you felt it was overpowered or something. Even with the change though it's a good card IMO as biased as it is and it gets my vote.

Thought Dissection: seems like a good card but I would make it a sorcery to balance it a bit more. It feels like an improved Duress/smallpox hybrid. It get's my third vote.

@Mpz5 sorry about that. I thought that the creator of the card meant this way instead of this turn. We often have to fix syntax errors in these cards before we present them. Since I actually had to read something into this one to change it, it is completely our fault. If you would like me to change it back in the article let me know. Sorry again

Mpz5 says... #15

It's no problem. It is a better card worded the way I had it and gives it a much more black feel I think so if it's not too much trouble I'd rather have it the other way as I think it would get me more votes. That way it would also work well with fetch lands, sac costs, memento creatures, and things of that nature.

Revival of the Fittest - Extra creature is a good thing :)

Rebirthing the Spoiled - I like this as a means to revive a graveyard permanent.

Kashiri of the Redeemed - another creature from the graveyard thing but every turn!

Vote 1 - Artemil The Grave Shaman-Looking again I agree the casting cost needs to have easier time being splashed, so 4B sounds reasonable. I'm not sure on if I worded the card properly. As it stands right now would memento not affect the creature as it has already 'died', therefore requiring a rewording, or does the way memento is worded allow this to work as designed?

Vote 2 - Though Dissection-I love card disruption, though the fact that it is instant speed seems at odd with the rest of MtG.

Vote 3 - Revival of the Fittest-Great mechanic, though I think it needs to be made clear of whether the creature needs to be under your control, and where the token ends up.
