Also, another reason I don't like Past in Flames -

Past in Flames: Only instant and sorcery cards in your graveyard when Past in Flames resolves will gain flashback. Instant and sorcery cards that are put into your graveyard later in the turn, including the resolving Past in Flames, won't gain flashback.

Lowenstein,

I've been using Sea Gate Stormcaller in place of Vizier of Tumbling Sands for the most part. At first glance it seems like a 'winmore' but being able to copy a spliced Reach Through Mists or Ideas Unbound. In practice it's basically arcane draw spell 9-11 for me and that's why I dropped Peer Through Depths in an attempt to increase game one resiliency by maining a single Echoing Truth and Eye of Nowhere as well as some Pact of Negations.

As for Underworld Breach, I've always preferred it because with Past in Flames required a bit of twiddle ramping to get it off. Breach only takes one twiddle effect on turn 4 to go off. Also, not really relevant but I liked how convenient it was to tap for red once to get a breach and grapeshot off. That wasn't always the case for me and Past in Flames.

Now I get Underworld Breach has inherent weaknesses because its an enchantment but the ability to drop breach immediately after resolving an arcane draw spell and recycling that same card numerous times in order to win. The escape cost is never an issue since there will naturally be Twiddles & Dream's Grip in the graveyard. Escaping a single copy of a spliced Ideas Unbound twice is more than enough to make sure I don't fizzle.

Lastly, with Underworld Breach the lower CMC also aids with the Sea Gate Stormcaller combo as you'd need to have at 4/5 mana floating to successfully copy a spliced arcane spell. In my limited trials, I found it's a bit difficult to have mana for Past in Flames after that.

Game 2, I always side out Underworld Breach for Aria of Flame and Sea Gate Stormcaller for counterspells / Echoing Truth.

tl;dr Of course it has its own issues but Underworld Breach is pretty consistent for me.

The only thing I could think of is that its potentially safer for the consumer and others to limit a given cart to six degrees of freedom (cardinal directions & left/right) compared to 360. This would only apply if you had a destination to go to (A -> B) and not so much for tool chests which only have to move small amounts in a given space. This also only applies for heavy loads.

Maybe I'm wrong. Probably, but that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Updated the 'Primer' and hopefully explained my really stupid deviations from the usual Twiddle lists.

I can't say this enough but thanks for stopping by!

Hey warkettle,

Just curious on what your sideboard plans are against say jund or control?

Also, Pact of Negation is always an option.

Hello, I have some cards suggestions you could consider.

Chulane, Teller of Tales - Not a defender but provides insane advantage if he sticks.

Mother of Runes - Again not a defender but the protection from spot removal is handy

Spidersilk Armor - Free butt padding and some answers to flyers

Crashing Drawbridge - Enables combos - see below.

Aura Shards - Just be mindful of this one as its really powerful but depends on your group. I play against Zur so its incredibly useful to me. Might not be as useful to you.

Intruder Alarm - allows for infinite combos - Overgrown Battlement for example.

Oko, Thief of Crowns - Still powerful. Shouldn't ever be a dead card.

Concordant Crossroads - Just over $20 atm. Allows you to be incredibly aggressive and allows you to ramp with Overgrown Battlement and the like. Combine this, Intruder Alarm & Battlement/Axebane & Arcades &/or Chulane and you should be able to drop quiet a few if not all your defenders. Crashing Drawbridge can sub for Crossroads in a pinch though.

Worldly Tutor/Mystical Tutor/Enlightened Tutor - Pretty self explanatory. Fairly cheap options that add a tad of consistency

Aluren - Combined with Arcades/Chulane and you drop the entire deck into play.
Im sure there is more but this is what I could think of off the top of my head.

Thanks, it honestly was a toss up between the two. Although I will admit being able to tutor pact part is an upside, that is what I mostly use Merchant Scroll for now that I dropped Peer Through Depths - First targets would be Psychic Puppetry/Echoing Truth.

I have time to proxy it before Zen Rising so I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Hello,

Just wondering why you aren't running 4 Archive Trap? Best mill spell in modern. Scheming Symmetry is a cheap option and great way to force an Archive Trap.
