Zoetic cavern + The Gitrog Monster

Asked by Linkdude74 7 years ago

If I have a face down Zoetic Cavern and The Gitrog Monster, and the Cavern dies, do I get Gitrog draw trigger?

Yes

Specifically because Gitrog's last ability says "one or more land cards" rather than just "one or more lands." That means the trigger condition is looking at your graveyard and not at the battlefield.

Face down morphs are always revealed when they move from the battlefield to any other zone, so your graveyard doesn't care that it used to be a 2/2 creature.

Ty. Someone brought this up at FNN, not during a match for standings but while I was goldfishing my gitrog deck. The judge was busy at the time so I didn't get a chance to ask. The guy said it wouldn't cause me to draw because it goes to the graveyard as a creature card but that didn't make sense to me, especially since you reveal morphs when they die. Guess Caverns stay in.

The important part is that a "to graveyard from anywhere" trigger always triggers based on what the cards look like in the graveyard. It's not like a "dies/leaves the battlefield" trigger that's based on what the cards looked like right before they left the battlefield. For example, a dying face-down Zoetic Cavern won't trigger Titania, Protector of Argoth.
