Will Platinum Angel save me?

Asked by Bezter 6 years ago

Hello all! Question:

I have a Platinum Angel on the board. Each player is at 5 life or less.

I cast Inferno in an attempt to kill all of my opponents, myself, all creatures, and win the game. Will the Angel save me?

Same question with Fortune Thief, does she work out for me too? Thanks in advance!

Well yeah. What part of "you cant lose the game and your opponents cant win the game" is confusing? It means just that. Fortune Thief is different but in the case of damage works too. Even if you took a million damage, it would reduce you to 1 life.

As long as the creatures don't die from the damage of course, but i figure that was obvious.

With Platinum Angel state based actions will be checked and cause Platinum Angel to be put destroyed at the same time as all other players lose the game. This means you will win the game, which is good, because the very next thing that would happen is state based actions being checked again and you losing the game.

With Fortune Thief the damage would cause your life total to become 1 and then state based actions would cause Fortune Thief to be destroyed at the same time as ell other players losing the game. This time your super safe because even if the game somehow continued your life total would still be 1.

shinobigarth no see that's what I'm asking. What if the angel and Thief would take lethal damage too, like from Inferno? That's the not obvious part. Sorry if that wasn't clear. If myself, all my opponents, and the Angel are all taking lethal damage, do I live and the angel/opponents die?

Thank you! that's what I'm asking. I'm trying to burn the whole board as my finisher.

Thanks all!

*as long as the angel doesn't die is what i meant. I stopped thinking about Fortune Thief when i typed that, then by the time i re-read it, it was too late to edit.

So what happens with the thief is since the 6 damage brings your life to -1, its replacement effect instead changes your life to 1, then all damage on players and creatures is checked, and the thief would die. But if your opponent was put at 0 or less life, the thief dying doesn't really matter as your opponent loses but you wouldn't because Thief changed your life to 1.
