Why is Kumano Kakkazan wording consquences

Asked by Delphen7 2 years ago

The back of Kumano Faces Kakkazan  Flip has the clause "this turn". How is that functionally different from "dealt damage by a source you control", because it seems really bizarre to word a creature that way.

The damage dealt by a source you control does not have to be what kills the creature for the ability on Etchings of Kumano to exile it. This is mostly because damage never kills anything, SBAs kill creatures for having lethal damage marked on them. The "this turn" stops a creature from being exiled when say someone sacrifices it to Ashnod's Altar when they used that creature to block one of yours 5 turns ago.
