When using a card like Frantic Search, can I cast cards to avoid discarding them?
Asked by Monx88 7 years ago
I was playing a game the other night (was not going great) and had an empty hand other than Frantic Search. I have many instants in this particular deck, and I had Leyline of Anticipation on the battlefield. Would I be able to draw two cards, cast said cards (of course depending on what I drew), then discard nothing, and untap the lands?
That's what I was leaning towards, but I was hoping that was not the case. Thanks!

The only exception to this is stuff with Madness such as Just the Wind and Obsessive Search. If you discard those you can cast them still and get the value out of it.

You would not be able to cast the cards you would draw during the resolution of Frantic Search. Spells need to fully resolve before a player gets priority to cast more spells, use abilities, etc. With an empty hand Frantic Search turns into milling yourself for 2 and untapping 3 lands.
