what is considered a red card?

I have a card, sorry can't recall the name of it at the moment, that says, you may exile a red card from your hand instead of paying it's casting cost. So I was just curious what is considered a red card? Does it have to have red in it's casting cost, or are things like Mountain and Boros Guildgate considered red cards because they have red symbols in their text?

A card's color is determined by color indicators and the colored mana symbols in its mana cost.

Mountain and Boros Guildgate are colorless.

A card's color is defined by the mana symbols in its mana cost or the color(s) of its color indicator symbol (or other effects specifically setting its color). Lands don't have either of these (except for Dryad Arbor , which has a color indicator symbol), so they're colorless cards.
