What is and aggro deck?
Asked by LordCruxis 13 years ago
I've heard this term thrown around a lot but I don't know what it means.
Sorry for the noob question
No big, gotta start somewhere!
Aggro decks are decks that rely on speed and damage to win games as fast as possible. They try to smash to victory as soon as possible, using burn and combat to hit fast and hard. Many (although, not all) aggro decks are red, thanks to red's abundance of burn (cards that do direct damage - see Lightning Bolt , Searing Blaze , and so on), and often contain creatures with a low mana cost, and abilities like haste, or battle cry. A good example of an aggo deck is a deck based around goblins, knights, or illusions, currently. They are simple, but effective.
Hope this helps!

I'd argue that white is much more aggro based than red in current standard. Tempered Steel, White Weenie, and Boros knights are usually much more powerful that Kuldotha Red or Goblins.

You make a good point, Dozer. Red is more removal heavy with all that burn, where as wite is more combat oriented.

I thought that Ravager Affinity was the ultimate aggro deck of all time.

I'm pretty sure the best aggro deck of all time is one based around goats. Just sayin'.

Well, barring an odd Ravager affinity deck that combos out a Conspiracy naming 'goat' on the first turn, it's probably Ravager affinity.

The Q&A is for rules-related questions, but:
An aggro deck is one which focuses on killing an opponent quickly. It doesn't focus on controlling the board or playing elaborate combos, it's mainly playing a bunch of guys and attacking very early. Current aggro decks are based mostly around goblins.
