What does Remove Enchantments Do?

Asked by pedroedmarcos 4 years ago

Hey there,

Sorry, I know is a simple and straight up question about a card and that "theoretically" read the cards explains the cards. But c'mon look at this card. I keep reading and still doesn't make sense to me. I found this Summary of the card, is it correct?

"Summary: Return global enchantments I own and control, destroy what I don't own but do control. Return my auras on permanents I control, destroy all other auras on them Return my auras on attacking creatures, destroy opponents auras on attacking creatures. "

the oracle text on the gatherer should clear it up.

The oracle text reads:

"Return to your hand all enchantments you both own and control, all Auras you own attached to permanents you control, and all Auras you own attached to attacking creatures your opponents control. Then destroy all other enchantments you control, all other Auras attached to permanents you control, and all other Auras attached to attacking creatures your opponents control."

In summery, first you return all enchantments you own that 1) you control, 2) are attached to permanents you control, or 3) are attached to attacking creatures. Second you destroy all enchantments 1) you control, 2) are attached to permanents you control, or 3) are attached to attacking creatures. You won't own any of those, as if you did, they would have been returned to your hand in the first bit. This does happen in two parts, meaning any effects on enchantments that are returned to your hand won't be around to trigger off the other ones being destroyed.

This is a bit different from your summery, as if you own and control Pacifism (an aura rather than global enchantment) it will be returned to you, even though it likely isn't enchanting a permanent you control or attacking creature. When the game does refer to a global enchantment, it will use the term 'non-Aura enchantment' (see Opalescence printed text verse oracle text).
