What colour is Alesha, Who Smiles at Death

Asked by Lloyd156_BLUE 8 years ago

So I have just made an Alesha deck and was thinking about including Crackdown . I know her colour identity is mardu, but her devotion is still only red right? Would she untap? Also would she count as devotion to non red gods of theros block.

I'm thinking she would stay tapped and count towards no devotion but would be nice to get a clear answer because crackdown would be so good in this deck!

Colour identity only counts for construction (and producing mana I guess). She is not a white creature. She would only provide devotion to red.

Effects that say "color" rather than "color identity" care only about color and not about color identity. Color is determined by colored mana symbols in a card's mana cost along with any color indicators in its type line and color characteristic-defining abilities.

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a red card with a color identity of red, black, and white. Therefore, Crackdown's ability will affect it, and it will only provide one devotion to red.

Note that devotion doesn't even care about color; devotion counts colored mana symbols in the mana costs of permanents you control, a red permanent with no red mana symbols in its mana cost (such as a token produced by Dragon Fodder) will not give you any devotion to red.
