Want to make sure I understand Braid of Fire correctly

Asked by mistersensation 6 years ago

So I'm building an EDH deck around good ol' Chandler, and from what I understand I can use Braid of Fire to activate his ability basically for free during my upkeep step, along with any other activated abilities or instants I can afford with Braid, since it creates an additional red mana each turn that empties after the upkeep, and there's nothing I have to pay to keep Braid in play since mana burn isn't a thing anymore. Is that right? I am allowed to use creatures' activated abilities as well as instants during my upkeep step, right? I just want to be 100% on this before I go all in on this strategy. Thanks guys!

Absolutely right, yes. But if you include Vedalken Orrery, that will let you pay for any of your spells on your upkeep!
