Unblockable

Asked by Profet93 9 years ago

Board State: I have Thassa, God of the Sea out as my commander. I have a creature and my opponent has a creature.

I attack with my creature, my opponent blocks with their creature. Can I then use my commander's ability to make my creature unblockable and attack directly? Or does that not work because blockers have been declared and I should have used my commander's ability prior to blockers being declared?

Making it so a creature cannot be blocked only prevents the declaration of blocks. Once a block has been declared, they cannot be undone with an effect that specifically removes a creature from combat (though the blocked creature will still be considered blocked for the purposes of combat damage).

merrowMania, to reiterate what you're saying... I should use my commander's ability prior to blockers being declared if I want to ensure that my creature isn't blocked, correct?

Indeed.
