Turn aside

Does turn aside counter creature spells who's abilities target a permanent I control?

A card is only a spell while it's being cast and on the stack. A creature on the battlefield isn't a spell anymore, and an ability on the stack isn't a spell, so Turn Aside can't be used to deal with them.

Rhadamanthus is correct.

Take Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre , for example. It is a creature spell with an ability that triggers on casting. The ability is separate from the creature spell. Therefore, you may not use Turn Aside to counter it, because the spell is not targeting a permanent you control. An ability created by the spell is, but that must b dealt with separately. Voidslime would be an appropriate counter in this example.

If an activated or triggered ability of a creature targets a permanent you control, Turn Aside cannot be used to counter it because abilities are not spells (and neither are creature permanents). Turn Aside may only legally target a spell, and only a spell which meets the given condition.
