Trading post interaction
Asked by Zarum 12 years ago
I have a Trading Post , a Wurmcoil Engine and seven mana open.
Can I use the sac a creature ability on my wurmcoil, get it back in my hand, and then play it again?
the third ability says sacrifice a creature: return target artifact card from your graveyard to your hand.
My question is if i can sacrifice the wurm then get it back using that ability and then play it if it returns to my hand

Oh, I mis-read both the card and the question, sorry. Still, no. Targets are chosen before costs are paid, so you have to target the artifact before you sacrifice the Wurmcoil Engine, at which point it's not in your graveyard to target.

If you had 2 Wurmcoil Engine though, you could alternatively sacrifice one to get the other one back and get lots of 3/3 creatures in the process. WIN!

Trading Post has 4 separate abilities. You cannot activiate 2 abilities at the same time on trading post because the card can only tap once for each ability (unless you have a way to untap it with Voltaic Key ).
To answer your question, If you were able to untap the Trading Post , you could use one ability to sacrifice the Wurmcoil Engine and draw a card, then untap the Trading Post and then use Trading Post again to return the Wurmcoil Engine to your hand. it would cost more than 7 mana to do it if you want to recast the Wurmcoil Engine .

No. Sacrificing a creature and sacrificing an artifact are both costs of separate abilities. You are activating one of those abilities when you use the trading post, so you have to declare which one you are activating. Wurmcoil can be sacrificed for either, but the post can only activate its abilities one at a time, and you have to pay the cost of its ability at the time of activation.
Furthermore, you can't sacrifice the same permanent for two different costs. If you sacrifice Wurmcoil Engine to the Trading Post's creature cost, you no longer have the Wurmcoil Engine to sacrifice for the artifact cost later.
