Toralf, god of fury + strionic resonator?

Asked by SilencedDax 2 years ago

Hi!

I'm building a Toralf, God of Fury  Flip deck and I was wondering if the Strionic Resonator would work with toralf, and how it would work.

It would copy the ability so all excess damage will be seen twice by Toralf (doubling the original excess damage) or the same for the next creature dealt excess damage?

thanks so much for the help!!

it will double the original damage. the copied ability must resolve immediately, it can't wait until later in the turn.

Wow!! so if I boardwipe for 6 damage to 2 1/1 creatures (5 excess damage each, 10 total excess damage), and I strionic resonate Toralf I will get 20 excess damage fos just two mana...amazing!!

the extra damage doesn't have to hit the same target btw.

yes that scenario might seem amazing at first, but it's also a niche and unlikely scenario that you'll have toralf, resonator, and a 6 damage wipe while your opponent only has 2 1/1's

another thing to keep in mind in that situation is you wouldn't actually copy all 10 damage. you would have to activate a separate resonator for each creature/planeswalker dealt excess damage. so in that scenario you mentioned, it's only 5 extra damage, not 10.

your toralf would also die from that line of play.

I see... I though I could activate the resonator once for all the creatures, not onces for each creature dealt excess damage. In that scenario does not seem pretty good sinergy

It seems better to protect Toralf in this line of play, or do enough damage to kill evvery opponent

the resonator can only copy 1 trigger, so it's important to recognize when there are multiple triggers. this is true of other cards as well. when a card effect doesn't have the line "one or more" in the effect somewhere, each instance of the event is a separate trigger. so i a card effect said "whenever you draw a card" and you play a spell that says "draw 4", then thats 4 separate triggers.

a real life example i had once during FNM was when a guy told me "i'll remove all 4 counters from Walking Ballista to kill your Thunderbreak Regent " and i told him "ok...take 12 damage". he didn't realize he would be triggering my regent 4 times.

thanks for the real life example and clarify my doubts, pretty instructive!! :D

In the future, this sort of query is best suited for the "Rules Q&A" section at the top of the page (or in the drop-down list from the three lines on mobile). Thanks!

The only board wipes that comes to my mind to abuse is Blasphemous Act? But that would be a red self board wipes strategy make a ton of goblins aka 1/1 creatures. Then nuke them with Blasphemous Act double the damage and KO as many players as possible

TheRealQuishy toralf only triggers if its creatures your opponent controls

TheRealQuishy, you can use star of extinction too after give your opp a lot of little creatures. You can play too some big hitters and low damage boardwipes (that does not kill your creatures) + some ways to give tokens to your opp to keep doing damage to their faces. And some big X instant spells to KO some player
