If you have The Sixth Doctor on the field, and you cast your first historic spell for that turn, are you forced to choose that historic spell as the one you copy for that turn?

Yes you will be - there’s no option not to.

You’d normally expect some sort of inclusion of the word “may” if the clause were optional
