Tegrid and Dauthi Voidwalker
Asked by aanimeeye 3 years ago
What happens if I have [[Tergrid, God of Fright + Dauthi Voidwalker] on board and I play Thoughtseize on a creature card?

Nah replacement effects are still linked, discarding that card will still lead to Tergid snagging it, even if you discard to exile because of a replacement effect like madness or Dauthi Voidwalker.

Oracle rulings on Tergrid disagree with you.
"If the card leaves the graveyard before Tergrid’s ability resolves, you can’t put it onto the battlefield, even if it returns to the graveyard before the ability resolves."

That describes a second event, not a replaced event.

Look, the card literally says "from a graveyard". This phrase is what is stopping this from working. If Tegrid would track to other zones it would simply say "Whenever an opponent sacrifices a nontoken permanent or discards a permanent card, you may put that card onto the battlefield under your control" similarly to It That Betrays.
I didn't want to resort to "reading the card explains the card" but here we are. Tergrid instructs you to put the card from the graveyard onto the battlefield. No amount of misunderstanding abilities tracking to the first zone a card arrives in or misunderstanding what linked abilities are will change that Tegrid instructs you to put the card from a graveyard onto the battlefield and that is literally impossible if the card is not in a graveyard.

You're very arrogant, but unfortunately very wrong. Reading the rules explains the card in this case.

Then post the rules and prove me wrong. I look forward to hearing from you in January.

If your opponent discards a card while you control Dauthi Voidwalker, abilities that function when that card is discarded still work, even though that card never reaches that player’s graveyard. In addition, spells or abilities that check the characteristics of the discarded card can find that card in exile.

Tergrid, God of Fright Flip
Dauthi Voidwalker
Dauthi Voidwalker prevents cards from ever going into the graveyard. Tergrid, God of Fright Flip specifically says "...that card from a graveyard onto the battlefield...". The card will be exiled with a void counter on it and Tergrid's ability will not do anything.
