Suspend Mox Tantalite after Solemnity?

Asked by dryhamm 4 years ago

Obviously if I suspend Mox Tantalite before casting Solemnity , then its just like without solemnity, but what if I suspend it after Solemnity is already in play? The wording for suspend on the card says "when the last is removed", (not "when it has no time counters on it") but if no time counters were ever put on it, because of Solemnity, is it exiled forever? Or does it just just go directly into play?

From the Gatherer Rulings on Solemnity:

7/14/2017: Counters can be put on cards that aren't on the battlefield. Notably, suspended cards will still get time counters.

The reason why this is the case is because artifacts are artifacts only on the battlefield. They are artifact spells on the stack and artifact cards in any other zone. The same is the case for creatures, enchantments, and lands. So in your example, when you suspend Mox Tantalite, you exile the artifact card and put time counters on it. It will not be an artifact until it enters the battlefield.
