Sunbond

Asked by Fanfax 11 years ago

While Sunbond is equipped to creature and creature has lifelink does Sunbond effect take place during battle phase while it blocks or attacks a monster?

no, Sunbond is a triggered ability.

so, suppose you have a Seraph of Dawn with Sunbond on it and you're blocking a Thundermaw Hellkite . You'll deal 2 damage and gain 2 life at the same time

The next time you would have priority(after damage is dealt), your your Seraph of Dawn will die to state based effects, and then Sunbond would go onto the stack, and it would behave like any other triggered ability from there.

You have quite a few terminology mistakes:

  • First of all, Sunbond enchants creatures. It doesn't equip to them. Only equipments equip to creatures.
  • Second, there is no such thing as a "battle phase." What you are referencing is the "combat damage step." Also keep in mind that a phase and a step are two different things with two different meanings.
  • Third, a creature can't attack another creature. The only things that can be attacked are players and planeswalkers.
  • Fourth, there are no "monsters." The card type that can attack and block are "creatures."

Sunbond creates a triggered ability that goes on the stack whenever its qualities have been met. In this case, the quality is gaining life. Since all combat damage is done simultaneously, you will not get counters on the Sunbond ed creature until after it has dealt damage.

This makes me wonder, if the Seraph of Dawn was equipped with a Moonsilver Spear as well as enchanted by Sunbond ...would that save it as it now has first strike??

If it had first strike and Sunbond , the trigger would go on the stack after first strike damage is dealt but before regular combat damage is dealt.

So then if they were to block with a Thundermaw Hellkite , the angel would deal 2 damage, you'd gain 2 life, get 2 +1/+1 counters makeing the angel a 4/6, then it would take the 5 damage surviving with 1 toughness left until it heals??
