Steel Overseer and Thousand-Year Elixir
Asked by ZaLiTHkA 13 years ago
Cards in question: Steel Overseer , Thousand-Year Elixir .
Obviously, I don't really mind much about the deck standard (it's for my Steel Garrison deck, which is Legacy anyway)... But I'm just curious about the synergies between these two cards.
After using Steel Overseer to place a +1/+1 counter on each artifact creature, I'd be able to pay 1 mana and tap Thousand-Year Elixir to untap my Overseer. Could I then use my Overseer's ability again in the same turn?
I assume I could because there isn't anything on Steel Overseer that stipulates "only once per turn". So, for a slightly higher overall mana cost, 2x Thousand-Year Elixirs and 2x Steel Overseers would be more versatile than simply having 4x Overseers... But would it be possible/legal to do this?
Awesome.. I thought as much, but I've been wrong in the past, so I just wanted another opinion. I highly doubt I would be able to do this during an opponent's turn though.... Playing the Machinations deck on MtG 2012 (PC), I can only activate the Overseer's ability during my main phases, pretty much as though it was a sorcery.
I used a "2x/2x vs 4x" example simply to keep the number of cards in each case the same. In either case I'd be able to use the Steel Overseer four times a turn (if I had all cards out, obviously), but with 2 of each I could rather use the Thousand-Year Elixir for something else if need be, therefore it'll be more versatile. :)

I also like Mirran Spy for that kind of thing. Flood the field with artifacts and steel overseer keeps untapping then tapping again. It's good fun!

Thanks rckclimber777.. Blue definitely is an Artifact deck's best friend. However, in this case, I was asking with my colourless artifact prototype deck in mind.. :)

To answer your question: yes Thousand-Year Elixir would enable Steel Overseer to tap again and add counters to your creatures and if you had spare mana could do it again and again (provided you had other elixirs of course) Or even on your opponents turn. It has more potential cuz it enables you to use your creatures abilities that require them to tap the turn they are summoned. As for the number of cards I suggest testing it out and seeing how it feels, that's the best way to do it in my opinion
