Solitary Confinement Rulings

Asked by AngelSlayerIX 9 years ago

Reading Solitary Confinement I'm not quite sure what it does. I've been thinking about adding it to my deck but it's wording is confusing.

Well, it does four things:

"At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Solitary Confinement unless you discard a card." : After you untap your permanents at the start of your turn, you either discard a card from your hand or you sacrifice the enchantment. Straightforward enough.

"Skip your draw step.": There's normally a time, at the start of your turn, after "at the beginning of your upkeep" effects happen, that you draw your one card for your turn. That doesn't happen anymore.

"You have shroud": You can't be targeted by anything, be it Lightning Bolt or Grim Lavamancer's ability. Your other permanents still can, including Solitary Confinement, but not you.

"Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you.": If an effect would deal damage to you, it deals no damage instead. If a creature would deal combat damage to you, it deals no damage instead.

Any questions?

Also, this is technically a rules question, which means it should've been posted in the Q&A, which is linked in the header bar. I'm gonna summon a mod person that can move this to the Blind Eternities forum (because they can't move it to the Q&A, because reasons). ChiefBell, were you the one who recently got the "move things around" powers? (Just in case I'll summon Epochalyptik anyway.)

At the beginning of your upkeep you either sacrifice it or discard a card. You don't draw during your normal draw step. It gives you hexproof and you can't take damage.

Shroud. It gives you shroud.

I'm no coding whiz, but wouldn't it be easier to make "MTG Q&A" a forum? That would only make sense.

THe Q&A is practically a forum but it is used so much that it is linked at the top.

I moved this to the blind eternities because I can't move it the Q&A. All rules and function questions should go in the Q&A. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

The Q&A is isolated because it has a couple features that forums do not. For example, Q&A threads can have answers selected and highlighted, and the Q&A listings visually separate unanswered questions from answered questions.

Thank you for all the input on Solitary Confinement. I will most likely add it to my deck now that I know the extend of its effects.

Second quick question about Solitary Confinement. Would it prevent you from gaining life, even from a commander such as Oloro, Ageless Ascetic.

Nothing about Solitary Confinement deals with preventing life gain.
