Snapcaster Mage + Rite of Flame
Asked by Jace_Nalaar 13 years ago
Okay. This is probably a stupid question, but I wanna be certain this does/doesnt work before I pick the rites up.
If I have Rite of Flame in my graveyard and I cast Snapcaster Mage to flashback it, is it still technically in the graveyard, allowing me to add 3 mana to my mana pool, or does it get taken out of the graveyard to be put on the stack?
Just curious to see if the "cast from graveyard" works the same as "cast from hand," really.

Part of casting a spell always involves moving it to the stack, no matter what zone it's coming from. For each zone, there's some effect in the game that allows a player to cast a spell from it (regular casting, Commanders, Suspend, Flashback, Future Sight , etc.).
601.2. To cast a spell is to take it from where it is (usually the hand), put it on the stack, and pay its costs, so that it will eventually resolve and have its effect. Casting a spell follows the steps listed below, in order. If, at any point during the casting of a spell, a player is unable to comply with any of the steps listed below, the casting of the spell is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that spell started to be cast (see rule 717, "Handling Illegal Actions"). Announcements and payments can't be altered after they've been made.
