sliver stacking
Asked by Ohthenoises 13 years ago
Do multiple copies of Virulent Sliver stack? (For example if I have 3 copies of it would it effectively give each sliver poisonous 3?)

Yes, virtually all of the "Ability X" (Keyword plus a number) abilities will stack with other copies of themselves. They are precisely worded for exactly that reason.

Hence my wording of effectively poisonous 3 alright thanks was just curious if it was a redundant ability like lifelink or an ability more akin to bloodlust ( in the way that multiple instances are independent)

When lifelink was first keyword-ed, it did stack. It still does stack in it's older wording (see Armadillo Cloak ) but with recent rules changes on how damage is dealt, both lifelink and deathtouch were reworded to become new (static) abilities compared to their old, triggered counterparts.

Yup I remember the days of Spirit Link lol I just was reading through the rules today and it was the first redundant ability I could think of.

Though it is fun still to stack armadillo cloak with lifelink

Yes, Virulent Sliver "stacks" (it doesn't make Poisonous 3, but gives multiple instances of poisonous 1). If you have 3 copies in play and one of your slivers deals combat damage to a player it will trigger each Poisonous 1, and once all three resolve the player will have gained a total of 3 poison counters.
Note that each being a seperate triggered ability matters mainly for things like if your opponent tries to stifle the ability, to reduce the number of counters he gets. If it were poisonous 3, one stifle would counter the ability. With 3 instances of poisonous 1, he would need 3 stifles (one for each of the triggers)
