sigarda and killing wave
Asked by Samp829 12 years ago
if i control Sigarda, Host of Herons and my opponent plays Killing Wave. since Sigarda, Host of Herons says spells and abilities your opponents can't cause you to sacrifice permanents. does that mean i have to take the life???? or is sigarda's effect ignored.

No. You are offered a choice here regardless of what Sigarda says. You may choose to sacrifice your creatures rather then pay life, but then Sigarda's ability prevents you from sacrificing them, so in the end Killing Wave doesn't really have any effect on you.

I see I'm a bit inaccurate again. You can't choose to sacrifice, but you can choose not to pay.

Killing Wave basically gives you the choice of whether or not you pay the life, and if you choose not to the other effect (sacrifice a creature) will try to happen. However Sigarda, Host of Herons stops you from sacrificing.
I would just like to point out that this would not work in reverse, if you had say, Platinum Emperion on the field, you can't choose to pay life, so your creatures would have to be sacrificed.

You don't have to pay the life.
Sigarda, Host of Herons's ability means your opponent's Killing Wave can't cause you to sacrifice permanents. Therefore, you can opt not to pay the life - even if you don't pay, your permanents still can't be sacrificed.
Always read the Gatherer pages for the cards in question.
Sigarda, Host of Herons:
5/1/2012: As a spell or ability an opponent controls resolves, if it would force you to sacrifice a permanent, you just don't. That part of the effect does nothing. If that spell or ability gives you the option to sacrifice a permanent (as Brain Gorger's ability does), you can't take that option.
Killing Wave:
5/1/2012: If you can't sacrifice a creature (perhaps because of Sigarda, Host of Herons), you can choose not to pay life and nothing will happen.
