Serra Ascendant in EDH?

Asked by Ilovespiders 12 years ago

If I play Serra Ascendant in a game of EDH without having lost any life, since you start out at 40 life, will it automatically get the +5/+5 and flying?

Yes. Serra Ascendant's static ability only cares what your current life total is; it doesn't relate that number to your starting life total.

In EDH it's often a question of house rules. In my playgroup, we had some problems with a player that abused those kind of effects that were made for "regular 20 lifepoints" formats, especialy Felidar Sovereign. Since you start at 40 life, we doubled the life required for these card to trigger. I agree with Epochalyptik on the ruling of the card. But i will refer you to the original rules of EDH www.mtgcommander.net/rules.php . if something does not work well in your playgroup, add an house rule.
